Heysnus is a smokeless tobacco product that can be placed between the upper lip and gums for a quick nicotine kick. It does not contain any tar or carbon monoxide and is a lot safer to use than cigarettes. This makes it an excellent substitute for cigarette smoking, helping many people quit cigarettes altogether. There is no risk of fire or passive smoking, and snus also contains less carcinogenic components than cigarette smoke, including nitrosamines. The fact that snus does not produce any harmful toxins is one of the reasons why Sweden has lower smoking rates and related health problems than most other countries in Europe.
Historically, snus was made by grinding and rubbing the tobacco leaf, but modern production uses steam to sterilize the product. This process inhibits the formation of nitrosamines and preserves the desired mouthfeel and texture of snus.
Snus and Nicotine Dependency: Navigating Addiction and Harm Reduction
Today, snus is available in several different formats. Some brands, like General Snus, have been around since 1866, while others are newer and experiment with flavors and portions. Some, such as Siberia Snus, offer a mix of traditional and modern, while others stick to classics such as mint and citrus.
Although there is some concern that snus could be a gateway to cigarette smoking, several studies [105] have shown that snus users tend to consume fewer cigarettes a day than smokers. In addition, some studies have found no association between snus and the development of oral or pharyngeal cancer, and in two of the seven studies where the gateway hypothesis was examined, the snus-only group had a significantly lower rate of smoking than the cigarette-only group.
